This course is designed to introduce young artists to different techniques in drawing. In this course students will learn perception drawing in which they will draw a perceived object (i.e a sneaker) from memory and then draw the actual object as a study. Students will also be introduced to the technique of establishing perspective in their drawing. This course will meet one day a week for one hour. Each student will be provided with an artist sketch pad, an eraser and drawing pencils which they will be able to keep at the conclusion of the course.
This course will introduce students to various styles of poetry. Students will learn how to identify rhyme patterns in poetry and use them in their own creative writing. The course will review different styles in books such as Dr. Seuss. We will also listen to different song styles and see how poetry can be identified in lyrics. Students will have the opportunity to work in groups and individually. During the final class, students will present some of their creative works. Course Materials: Writing journal
Origami is the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures. The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of paper into a finished sculpture. The use of cuts or glue are not considered to be origami. Students will create several new sculptures each week that they may keep.
